The story of Moeke is the story of a Romanian woman Ioana
, who decided to root back to her past, to the natural resources of her homeland and to the traditions she experienced during her childhood while living with her grandparents in the mountains surrounded by nature and sheep.
Cuando residía en Holanda, Ioana retomó su afición al ganchillo y al punto y comenzó a interesarse por las fibras que utilizaba. Poco a poco empezó a apreciar más la lana y sus propiedades como fibra natural. En uno de sus viajes a Rumanía para visitar a sus padres, descubrió una bolsa de lana que su abuela había hilado a mano y ya no hubo vuelta atrás: esa era exactamente la lana que tanto había echado de menos. Junto a su hermano comenzó a investigar acerca de las diferentes especies de oveja locales y las pequeñas empresas familiares que procesan la lana de manera tradicional...
When Ioana took up crochet and knitting as a hobby some time ago at her home in the Netherlands, her interest in fiber grew and little by little she started appreciating more wool and its properties as natural fiber. One day while visiting her parents in Romania she discovered a bag of hand spun yarns by her grandmother and was instantly drawn to it. This was the yarn she was longing for. Together with her brother they decided to do a research in their country about local sheep breeds and mills that would process wool in the traditional way...

Moeke Yarns
was born,
a small family run business with intention to preserve the traditional heritage of Romania. The fleece from the local sheep breeds is processed with authentic methods from the past, washed with no harmful chemicals and spun in fiber mills with original machinery.
The result is a unique, lovesome yarn that keeps all the essence and energy of its origins. A beautiful label attached to the finished yarn hanks explains this story illustrated by

Ya hacía bastante tiempo que me rondaba la cabeza incorporar Moeke a la
selección de lanas de OPENstudio79
, hasta que finalmente decidí contactar con Ioana. Me envió diferentes tipos de lana, tejí algunas muestras y ¡me enamoré! Me apetecía que los tejedores de Mallorca pudieran conocer este tipo de lana y pensé que quizá podría diseñar un patrón para que pudieran ver cómo quedaba tejida y también para que otros lo pudieran disfrutar online. Para mi sorpresa, Ioana me ofreció ser parte de

It has been a long time since I have been wanting to incorporate Moeke into my selection of yarns at
OPENstudio79
, but it took me a while until I definitely contacted Ioana. She send me some samples of her yarn, I knitted a few swatches and was instantly in love with it. I decided that I wanted to offer it to the Mallorcan knitters and that I could design a little pattern to knit as a sample for my shop and to offer other knitters online. For my surprise Ioana also offered me to be part of the "MY make along" that she is hosting right now. Have a look at

Y así surgió la idea del
. Para diseñar este patrón elegí

, una lana de una sola hebra, una fibra rústica que conserva aún algunos restos del campo y lanolina, que te llevan a reconectar instantáneamente con las ovejas, las praderas y los paisajes de Rumanía. En cierto modo, te transporta y hace que te sientas entre las flores, la hierba y los campos por los que pastan las ovejas. Me dejé llevar por esas sensaciones para crear el patrón de este chaleco, sencillo pero capaz de resaltar la fibra con el que esta tejido. Como una ventana abierta desde la que nos asomamos a un asombroso paisaje.

, single ply yarn, which is a beautiful rustic fiber, with some traces of nature in it and a bit of lanolin reconnecting you instantly with the sheep, the meadows and the landscape that it came from.
Somehow you get blown away by it and you imagine the flowers, the grass and fields that the sheep pasture on. I decided to create a vest, with a minimal, boxy look that would highlight the fiber itself. Like an open window with a landscape to look into.
La parte delantera del chaleco está diseñada con el punto de 'diente de león', y la espalda está tejida en punto jersey con un pequeño calado en forma de V en el centro. Para tejer los hombros se utilizan vueltas cortas y luego se unen. Las aperturas de las mangas son extra grandes, para que puedas lucir el chaleco sobre un top cuando no haga aún demasiado frío o sobre una blusa o una camiseta de manga larga cuando ya empieza a refrescar.
The front panel of the vest is designed with a dandelion stitch pattern and the back is knitted in stockinette stitch with a little V-shaped eyelet pattern in the middle of the shoulder blades. Short rows are used to knit the shoulders and are then grafted together. An extra wide arm opening allows you to wear the vest over a top for a milder climate or over a long sleeve or blouse if you prefer.
Para mí, lo mejor de este de este patrón es que
cada tejedor puede customizar su chaleco
bordándole los dientes de león que quieran en el color que prefieran, creando así su propio paisaje de flores. Una vez bloqueado, el chaleco y la lana florecen, gracias a este sencillo bordado de hojas que le aporta un toque diferente a la prenda, y que podréis transformar cada vez que os apetezca.
My favorite part of the design is that
each knitter can customize the vest
by stitching over with a contrasting colored yarn some of the dandelion flowers creating his own landscape. Once the vest is blocked and the yarn has bloomed beautifully
a simple embroidery leave stitch will give the finishing touch to the garment, that can be transformed as often as you like.
